Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna , August 22 - 26 2006 Judgments of distance between trichords
Music theorists have typically measured the distance between chords simply by summing the displacements of each voice (the “taxicab metric”). Our research tested this assumption of linearity and the influence of other factors such as tuning environment and direction of motion. In two related experiments, participants listened to pairs of trichords and rated their perceived musical distance. As ...

Privacy is an important challenge facing the growth of the Web and the propagation of various transaction models supported by it. Decentralized distributed models of computing are used to mitigate privacy breaches by eliminating a single point of failure. However, end-users can still be attacked in order to discover their private information. This work proposes using distributed hierarchical ne...
متن کاملUTMS 2006 – 9 May 8 , 2006 On the Young theorem for amalgams and Besov spaces
In this paper, we obtain a refinement of the Young theorem. The Young theorem tells us that the Fourier transform F sends the L functions to the Lp functions, if 1 ≤ p ≤ 2. This theorem has a refinement. For example, F : L → B ∞1, where B pq is the Besov space. In this present paper we shall consider the more refined version of this theorem by using the amalgams and the Besov spaces.

Databases are typically stored in one of two formats. A horizontal representation, as shown above, is indexed by transaction ID and stores items in each transaction. A vertical representation, on the other hand, is indexed by item and stores transactions that each item occurs in. Different algorithms are tuned to work with different representations. In this lecture, we will focus on horizontal ...
